Teacher Professional Development
A key part of CREATE's equity work is supporting students via supporting the educators who serve them. Programs inside CREATE offer extensive professional development opportunities for practicing teachers serving the diverse student populations of San Diego County and Imperial County. Because a teacher can reach hundreds of students annually and many thousands across a career, we call investing in teachers “the multiplier effect.”
Our programs collaborate with educators as equity designers and focus on continuous improvement of practice, subject matter expertise, and pedagogical effectiveness. California Reading & Literature Project
San Diego Area Writing Project
The San Diego Area Writing Project (SDAWP) is one of 16 sites of the California Writing Project network dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of writing. We provide a wide range of high-quality professional development opportunities for K-16 educators.
San Diego Science Project
The San Diego Science Project (SDSP) is our region's site of the statewide California Science Project, a science teacher professional network. The SDSP works closely with the San Diego County Office of Education and other informal education institutions to provide a variety of long term, targeted professional development for preK-16 teachers throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties.
UC San Diego Mathematics Project
UC San Diego Mathematics Project is the newest of 20 California Subject Matter Projects for mathematics. The UCSD MP seeks to build mathematics teacher leadership and ensure a greater number of San Diego teachers are prepared to provide high quality, engaging mathematics education to low-income, underserved, minority students.
Math for America San Diego
Math for America San Diego (MfA SD) is a non-profit organization also working to improve the quality of mathematics teaching and learning in our region’s low-income and high-need secondary schools. Housed inside CREATE, the MfA SD is a consortium of three public universities and five local school districts.
Code.org Regional Partnership Program
CREATE has partnered with Code.org to expand access to computer science in the San Diego region through professional learning programs that provide the training teachers need to introduce computer science to middle and high school students, especially in districts with underrepresented students and low-income families.
Computer Science Teachers Association
CSTA San Diego is the local chapter of the International Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA), housed inside CREATE.
