California Reading and Literature Project

The mission of the California Reading & Literature Project (CRLP) is to provide high-quality, standards-based professional development in reading and language instruction to help ensure that every California student PreK-12 achieves the highest standards of academic performance. San Diego Area Writing Project

The San Diego Area Writing Project (SDAWP) is one of 16 sites of the California Writing Project network dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of writing. Since 1977, SDAWP has been dedicated to the improvement of writing for all students and to the vision that student writing can be improved by the teaching of writing. We believe that writing is critical to learning and a vital tool for communication and should occur regularly in all classrooms and across the curriculum. We provide a wide range of high-quality professional development opportunities for K-16 educators. 

The San Diego Area Writing Project also offers a variety of programs that encourage students to grow and build self-confidence in their writing abilities. Math for America San Diego 

Math for America San Diego (MfA SD) is a consortium of three public universities and five local school districts. The goal of the non-profit organization, which is housed within CREATE, is to improve the quality of mathematics teaching and learning in our region’s low-income and high-need secondary schools. San Diego Science Project

The San Diego Science Project is our region's site of the statewide science teacher professional network of the California Science Project. The San Diego Science Project (SDSP) works closely with the San Diego County Office of Education, the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and other informal education institutions to provide a variety of long term, targeted professional development for preK-16 teachers throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties. The teacher-driven professional development includes institutes, workshops, and school site support.  Click here for current professional development offerings by the SDSP. UC San Diego Department of Education Studies

CREATE also partners with UC San Diego's Department of Education Studies (EDS) to support San Diego educators. We support UC San Diego undergraduates to find and enroll in EDS service learning programs, courses, and credential pathways. Many EDS-trained educators have next experienced CREATE-based professional development. Teachers we meet through CREATE-based professional development also often enroll in EDS graduate and administrator programs. Together, we are strengthening the network of educators in the San Diego region.

Through grants secured in the CREATE STEM Success Initiative (CSSI), CREATE has launched many additional professional development projects serving the region’s educators. These include:

The San Diego Math Network, an effort to link the region’s math educators

ONR-REAL, a network seeking to leverage San Diego science into local classrooms

CS-CAVE, an NSF-funded network working to increase computer science coursework in the region’s schools. See CREATE’s blog for more on these efforts. 

Additional professional development networks underway at CREATE include:

Smart Tech Use for Equity (with the San Diego Area Writing Project), which engages teachers in testing the pros and cons of specific uses of technology in classrooms;

#schooltalking, Mica Pollock’s effort to share resources that can improve communications for equity in schools, districts, and education communities.

REATE also partners with UC San Diego's Department of Education Studies (EDS) to support San Diego educators. Many EDS-trained educators have experienced CREATE-based professional development. Together, we are strengthening the network of educators in the San Diego region.
