The San Diego Area Writing Project is one of the seventeen sites of the California Writing Project Network, and one of the 180 sites of the National Writing Project Network, dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of writing. The sites maintains an exemplary twenty-nine year reputation in professional development and resides within the Center for Research in Educational Equity, Assessment, and Teaching Excellence (CREATE), University of California, San Diego. The site is guided by the following NWP / CWP principles:

  • Teachers are key to educational reform.
  • The best teacher of teachers is often another teacher who has demonstrated success in a similar situation.
  • Knowledge about the teaching of writing comes from those who teach, write and research.
  • Writing deserves constant attention, from kindergarten through university.
  • Universities and schools accomplish more in partnership.
