The San Diego Area Writing Project is one of the
seventeen sites of the California Writing Project Network, and
one of the 180 sites of the National Writing Project Network,
dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of writing. The
sites maintains an exemplary twenty-nine year reputation in professional
development and resides within the Center for Research in Educational
Equity, Assessment, and Teaching Excellence (CREATE), University
of California, San Diego. The site is guided by the following
NWP / CWP principles:
- Teachers are key to educational reform.
- The best teacher of teachers is often another teacher who
has demonstrated success in a similar situation.
- Knowledge about the teaching of writing comes from those who
teach, write and research.
- Writing deserves constant attention, from kindergarten through
university.
- Universities and schools accomplish more in partnership.
