Getting Started

There are two ways of getting involved with CREATE College Students (CCS). The first way is to serve as a volunteer and the second way is to serve as an intern at one of our three partnership schools: The Preuss School, Gompers Peparatory Academy (GPA), and Lincoln High School (LHS).  Once you determine what role and site you want to be involved with, you must do the following:

  • Complete Paperwork (Note: Each school has its own paperwork)
  • Submit Completed Paperwork to Evelyn Lucio for LHS and Mariko Cavey for GPA and Preuss
  • Attend MANDATORY orientation

The most important part of this process is choosing role and site. Below is information about paperwork required and deadlines.  If you have questions please feel free to contact Evelyn Lucio or Mariko Cavey.

Volunteers

UCSD students interested in volunteering must complete the following paperwork:

  • Located in Provost and Business Office of the Thurgood Marshall College Administration Building
  • Upon submission of paperwork you will receive an email about attending a MANDATORY volunteer orientation at the Preuss School.
Gompers Preparatory Academy (GPA)
  • GPA Volunteer Application
  • Code of Conduct
  • Safe Kids Policy Form
  • Background Check Consent Form
  • Completed TB Test Results
  • Completed paperwork submission to Mariko Cavey, Provost Intern
  • Located in Provost and Business Office of the Thurgood Marshall College Administration Building
  • Upon submission you will receive an email about attending a MANDATORY volunteer orientation at UCSD with GPA staff.
Lincoln High School (LHS)
  • LHS Volunteer Application for SDUSD
  • LHS QUestionnaire
  • LHS Screening/Background Check Form
  • TB Test Form
  • Completed paperwork submission to Evelyn Lucio, Program Coordinator
  • Located in the Social Science Research Building, third floor, office 320 (Directly in between Solis and Peterson Hall)
  • Upon submission you will receive an email about attending a MANDATORY volunteer orientation at UCSD with LHS staff.

Interns

UCSD students interested in an internship must follow the same application process as volunteers.  However, interns must also submit:

  • Resume: Objective state top three internship interest at one school
  • Schedule of Classes: Include extra curriculars (work, clubs, etc)
  • TMC 198 Form
  • All Volunteer Paperwork (even if you are interning)

The deadline to apply for an internship is the Friday of Finals week, the quarter BEFORE you wish to intern.  In some cases, applications are accepted through Week One of the quarter in which you wish to intern.  However, all applicants who meet the deadline will receive priority placement.  Late applications are accepted under special circumstances.

Preuss and GPA internship paperwork is to be submitted to the desk of the Provost Intern, Mariko Cavey, located in the Provost and Business Offices of the Marshall College Administration Building.  Lincoln volunteer paperwork is to be submitted to the Office of Program Coordinator, Evelyn Lucio, located in the Social Science Research Building, third floor, office 320.
