Parent Information
It is no secret that parent involvement improves student achievement. When parents are involved, children do better in school. One of CREATE's goals is to build strong parental involvement in a child's educational process at home by forging a working partnership between parents, communities, and schools.
CREATE believes that:
- All parents love their children and want the best for them
- Parents can provide important information about their children to the school to improve the learning process
- The life experiences that parents share with their children are a valuable asset and contribution to the education of their children
- The education of parents and students is most effective when principles of respect and participation are incorporated
- Schools can provide parents with valuable suggestions about ways to help their children learn
- Parents, teachers, and community members can work in concert to ensure the educational success of every child
- The role of education should be woven into the fabric of our democratic principles
- Education is the best anti-poverty program!
CREATE's goal is to assist low-income, ethnically diverse parents of school-age children to participate in the education of their children and encourage them to:
- Stay in school and graduate with a high school diploma
- Improve parent/child relationships
- Improve their academic skills and performance in class
- Be prepared to enter the world of work or college up to graduation
- Attend college or vocational school
- Value their family, community, language and culture
- Respect themselves, their families and community
- Learn about and use information on the college-going process
CREATE can design and offer information sessions that will accomodate the schedules of working parents' schedules. Curriculum topics may include:
Home/school collaboration
The home, motivation and self-esteem
Community resources to enhance education
How the school system functions
Pathways to college and a career
College preparation information
